BOOTHBAY HARBOR – Wayne Putnam Miller, 70, of Boothbay Har-bor, died Monday, Nov. 17, 2003, surrounded by his family at Cove’s Edge Skilled Care Unit in Damariscotta, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born Aug. 21, 1933, in Concord, N.H., the son of Walter K. Miller and Gladys R. Miller. He grew up in Freeport and was a graduate of Freeport High School, Class of 1953. Wayne was a veteran of the U.S. Army, honorably discharged in 1962. For many years, Wayne was employed in the commercial fishing industry in the Boothbay Region. He worked at Bowdoin College in the Physical Plant Department for more than 17 years. He was an avid sports fan, always cheering for his favorite teams, the Boston Red Sox, Boston Bruins, and the local high school teams. He also enjoyed listening to Boston Sports Talk Radio and quoting sports trivia. He particularly enjoyed the time spent with his family at their condo in North Conway, N.H. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Marita H. Miller of Boothbay Harbor; sons, Alan W. Miller and his wife, Donna, of Bangor, Kevin W. Miller and his wife, Mary, of Boothbay Harbor; daughter, Lisa M. Clarke and her husband, James, of Edgecomb; grandchildren, Jaret, Ryan and Gabrielle Miller of Bangor, Alexandra and Nicole Clark of Edgecomb, Renee, Joshua, and Jennifer Miller of Boothbay Harbor; sister, Beverly Bartlett and her husband, Richard, of Topsham; several brothers and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews Respecting Wayne’s wishes, a private family funeral will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, at Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, Boothbay. Burial will follow in the Grove Cemetery in Freeport. Mr. Miller’s family wishes to express their gratitude to the entire staff of Cove’s Edge Skilled Care Unit and Miles Home Health Care/Hospice for their professionalism and loving care. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Wayne P. Miller to Miles Home Health/Hospice, 40 Belvedere Road, Damariscotta, ME 04543. Arrangements are under the care of Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, Boothbay.
