LUBEC – Wayne T. Laskey, 68, passed away Sept. 13, 2004, at a Machias hos-pital, after a long struggle with emphysema. He was born Jan. 13, 1936, in Lubec, the son of Theodore and Doris (Fleming) Laskey. He was a 1954 graduate of Lubec High School. He joined the U.S. Army in 1955, and served for three years, most of the time in Germany. He then returned to Lubec where he spent the rest of his life. He was flexible in his working abilities, as most people in Downeast Maine must be. During the early 60’s he fished around the Lubec area. He also spent several years delivering grain to Washington County hen houses. He spent three years working at Quoddy Head State Park, before he started the work that he came to enjoy most as a heavy equipment operator. He began his work on a bulldozer with Sheldon Stanley, and continued it with Hanscom Construction. He continued to operate heavy equipment until his health forced him to retire. He is survived by his wife, Mavis (Griffin) Laskey of Yreka, Calif.; three children, Linda Curry of Yreka, Calif., Gary Laskey and Michael Morey, both of Lubec; a sister, Eleanor Small of Mechanic Falls; close friend and caregiver, Stella Morey of Lubec; six grandchildren, Patrick, Barrett, Melanie, Jonathan, Brennan, and Isaiah; and two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Taylor. He will be sadly missed and loved by all he left behind. At Wayne’s request there will be no memorial services at this time. Arrangements are in care of McClure Family Funeral Services, Lubec.
