LIMESTONE and ARUNDEL – Wayne W. Ames, 80, husband of the late Reta J. “Sis” (O’Neal) Ames, passed away Saturday morning, Jan. 21, 2006, at a Biddeford healthcare facility. He was born Feb. 28, 1925, at Fort Fairfield, the son of Abner T. and Susan (Shea) Ames. Wayne was a graduate of the Fort Fairfield High School, Class of 1943 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II where he earned the rank of corporal, serving the Pacific Campaign. After returning from the military, Wayne attended Husson College, Bangor, where he obtained a degree in certified public accounting. He was a member of the Limestone United Methodist Church, the VFW Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, Fort Fairfield and the Fort Fairfield Rod and Gun Club, where he served as range and safety instructor. Wayne was married to Reta J. “Sis” O’Neal, June 24, 1952 and will be remembered as an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting, fishing and firearms and was employed as a postal clerk at the Limestone Post Office for 33 years. In addition to his parents, Mr. Ames was predeceased by his wife, Feb. 13, 2003. He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Kris and Gayla Ames of Arundel; one sister, Neva Thompson of Limestone; two grandsons, Aric Ames and his fiance, Hillary LeClaire, of Biddefored, Craig Ames and his wife, Karen, of Sanford; two nieces, Andrea Struble and her husband, Art, of Glenwood, Colo., Cheryl Haleblain and her husband, Newton, of Plains, Mont.; sister-in-law, Nancy L. Hathaway and her husband, Philip, of Houlton; special nieces, Michelle VanTasel and Melanie Stewart, both of Houlton; special nephew, David O’Neal of Fort Fairfield, several nieces and nephews. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, at the Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, at the Dorsey Funeral Home, with Pastor Ellen Cleaves, officiating. Friends may also call noon until time of service Wednesday. A reception in memory of Mr. Ames will be held at the Limestone United Methodist Church immediately following the service. Interment will take place at the Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield, later in the spring.
