ALTON – Weldon Priest Young Sr., 78, died Dec. 10, 2004, at a Bangor hospital after a long illness. He was born April 15, 1926, in Alton a son of Ralph Sr. and Ena (Priest) Young. Weldon was a World War II veteran having served with the U.S. Army. He was a self-employed carpenter and built and remodeled many homes in the area. He was a member of the Bangor Singles Club and VFW Post No. 4633 of Hampden, Brewer Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 3177. He loved to travel and was an avid rabbit hunter and fisherman. He is survived by his loving wife, Janet (Grant) Young; three children, daughter Helen Violette and her husband, Kenneth Sr., of Old Town, sons Weldon Young Jr. and wife, Marleen, and Charles Young Sr. and his wife, Mary, all of Alton; stepdaughter Sheri Ouellette and her companion, Daniel Harnish, of Winterport; grandchildren, Kenneth Violette Jr. and his wife, Myra, of Brewer, Karen Violette of Portland, Tracy Young and her companion, Tim, of Old Town, Charles Young Jr. and his fianc?e, Shelby and her daughter, Brooke (a very special little girl) of Alton, Weldon Young III and his wife, Tammy, of Alton; great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Bryan Violette of Brewer; stepgrandchildren, Douglas Legasse of Gorham, Christine Legasse of Brunswick, Daniel Legasse and wife, Heidi, of Roy, Wash., Renee and husband, Mike Steller, of Orrington; great-stepgrandchildren, Joseph, Andru, Charles, Chase Legasse, Anthony Yurchick, Danielle Caron, Matt and Ben Elyer; sister, Ethelyn Gerrish and her husband, Fred of Alton; two brothers, Damon Young and his wife, Sharon and Veral Young all of Alton; two sisters-in-law, Mamie Young and Madelyn Young of Old Town. He was loved and will be missed by many nieces, nephews, and very special (self-adopted children) Debbie Hebert, Gerry and Al Chambers, Reno and Sue Ouellette and many more friends whose lives he touched. He was predeceased by his first wife Mary; sons, James and Leroy; granddaughter, Wanda; brothers, Dale, Theron, Ralph Jr., Ashley, and Arnold; sisters, Elvie Clukey, Thena McAlpine, and Nadine Gibbons. Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday, at the Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town, where a funeral service will be conducted 10 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Madonna Flanders, officiating. Immediately following the service all are invited to the Alton United Methodist Church Fellowship for a light luncheon and continued fellowship.
