HOULTON – Welthy J. McCue Varney, 64, died Oct. 20, 2005, after a hard fought battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born Nov. 27, 1940, at Houlton, the son of Clayton F. and Faye (Miller) McCue. Welthy was a member of the County Road Baptist Church. She worked in the banking industry for many years and later worked as an environmentalist for the Houlton Band of Maliseets. Her greatest joys were raising her family, the outdoors and all its activities. Welthy looked forward to going out with her sister, Mary for ice cream or riding in the Mustang with the top down even when it rained. She is survived by her parents of Houlton and Florida; two sons, Murray Varney III of Bangor, Michael Varney and his wife, Sarah of Glenburn; one daughter, Sarah Grant and her husband, Kevin, of Houlton; seven grandchildren, Lindsey, Isaac, Luke, Terri-Leigh, Donna, Derek and Madison; one great-grandson, Stuart Thaddius; two brothers, David McCue and his wife, Mary, of Bangor, Bill McCue and his wife, Em, of Ga.; three sisters, Lu Howland and her husband, Dick, of Florida, Mary Putnam and her husband, Vaughn, of Houlton, Kathy Moulton and her husband, John, of Florida; several nieces and nephews. She also leaves her extended family at Madigan House, Madigan Estates and the County Road Baptist Church. She was predeceased by her husband, Murray “Mickey” Varney. Friends may call 1 p.m. Sunday, until time of the service 2 p.m. at the Dunn Funeral Home with the Revs. Rick Carver and David Tuttle officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.
