ELLSWORTH – Wendell Raymond Jones, 81, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Dec. 24, 2003. He was born on Nov. 6, 1922, in Essex, Conn., the son of Raymond and Madeline “Madge” Jones. Wendell served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Masons and was a member of the Essex Fife and Drum Corps for several years in Connecticut. He married his loving wife, Dorothy Beal of Ellsworth on March 21, 1959. They made their home on Beal’s Avenue in Ellsworth where they lived happily for 32 years. After spending many years as a meat cutter at Doug’s Shop and Save, Wendell focused his talents on bird carving and sold many a masterpiece out of the Gilley Museum in Southwest Harbor. Wendell was a member of the Unionville Church of God and enjoyed the friendship of all the wonderful people that he met there. He enjoyed being with his wife and friends and reading his Bible. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 45 years, Dorothy (Beal) Jones; his three children, William Spring of Ellsworth, George Spring of Chester, Conn., and Mary Jane (Spring) Brush of Mystic, Conn.; six grandchildren, David Spring, Mike Spring, Thomas Spring, Christopher Gallo, Mathew Gallo and Holly Ann Reudgen; and many great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his friends and loved ones. Friends are invited to visit with the family 6-8 p.m., Monday at Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 215 Main St. Ellsworth where funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003, with Pastors Floyd Flynn and Lewis Cushman officiating.
