HARRINGTON – Wilbur “Wib” W. Worcester Sr., 86, passed away Nov. 5, 2005, at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, after a brief illness. He was born Dec. 2, 1918, in Columbia Falls, the son of the late Willie and Laura (Grant) Worcester. He graduated from Columbia Falls High School. On Valentine’s Day 1942, he married Mary Perry. Wib served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After the war, Mary and Wilbur moved home to Columbia. Wib worked in the pulpwood industry for many years. He also worked as a school bus driver and as a mechanic. He opened Wib’s Market in the mid 1950’s. Later in life, Wib worked for and retired from mowing for the state. He called Beano for many years for the Osceola Grange and the Senior Citizens Club. Wib was an avid hunter and enjoyed hunting on the barrens where he grew up. In the summertime, you could find him fishing at the cable pool on the Narraguagus River. He loved gardening, snowmobiling and tending to his blueberry land. Wib was a lifetime member of the Osceola Grange No. 570, the American Legion in Cherryfield and the Narraguagus Snow Mobile Club. He was also a member of the Advent Christian Church in Harrington. He is survived by a son, Wilbur “Skip” Worcester Jr. and wife, Cheryl, of Bangor; a daughter, Susan Bagley and husband, Charles, of Gouldsboro; daughter-in-law, Frances, of Columbia Falls; seven grandchildren, P.J., Angela, Kathleen, Jessica, Jason, Ralph and Corinne; nine great-grandchildren, Phoenix, Paige, Rebecca, Trevor, Joshua, Jesse, Erin, Amanda and Charles; two great-great-grandchildren, Jacob and Autumn; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Mary Worcester; brothers, Richard, Austin, Wesley and Hubert; sister, Avis; grandson, Chucky Bagley; and great-granddaughter, Cady Lyn Bagley. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, at Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, Milbridge. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, at Mailey Hill Cemetery in Columbia officiated by Pastor Clive Meidahl.
