OLD TOWN – Wilfred “Franklin” M. Brissette, 88, passed away June 12, 2008, at the Maine Veterans’ Home, Bangor. He was born Jan. 18, 1920, the son of Moses and Mabel (Thompson) Brissette. Franklin was a very proud and loving man, who enjoyed fishing, hunting and his family. He also enjoyed woodworking and was well known for his adirondack chairs, wishing wells and lighthouses. He was a proud member of the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving on the heavy cruiser USS Tuscaloosa in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters. On Oct. 5, 1944, he married his sweetheart, Pauline Turner and together they raised their family in Old Town. Upon returning from the war, Franklin was self-employed in the logging industry. He also worked at Old Town Shoe Co., and retired from White Sign. In addition to his loving wife of 63 years, Pauline, he is survived by his two sons, Anthony C. and wife, Patti, of Holden and Jonathan P. and wife, Shirley, of Old Town. He is also survived by grandchildren, Audrey A. Brissette and companion, Wayne Slade, of Milford and Christopher P. Brissette and wife, Nicole, of Gardiner; great-grandchild, Alyssa Lynn Brissette of Milford; brother, David L. Brissette of Old Town; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; his daughter, Rebecca; his brothers, Francis, James and George Brissette; and his sisters, Wynona Baker, Doreen Faso and Lorraine McGovern. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Maine Veterans’ Home, Bangor, for their compassion and wonderful care. At Franklin’s request, services will be private and held at Lawndale Cemetery, Old Town.
