LINCOLN – William A. Arthurs Sr., 87, husband of Ila (Boyington) Arthurs, died Dec. 26, 2006, at a Lincoln health care facility. He was born Nov. 27, 1919, in Winn, the son of William and Nellie Evelyn (Sawyer) Arthers. Bill attended Winn schools and served in World War II in the 247th anti-aircraft artillery search light battalion. He was a farmer for years, and worked 37 years at Lincoln Pulp & Paper Co. In addition to his wife of 63 years, Ila, he is survived by six children, Larry of St. Simon’s Island, Ga., Jerold of Wytopitlock, William Jr., Linda Houghton and Ellen Shorey, all of Lee and Robin Polomsky of Newington, Conn.; 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Kenwood Boyington of Lincoln. He was predeceased by a son, Joseph; a special great-grandson, Larry Hoyt Arthurs Jr. of Baileyville; three brothers, Hernan, Lucian and Fred; two sisters, Sadie Lyons and Jennie Thurlow. Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Pastor William Bewell officiating. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Lee. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, The Alzheimer’s Foundation or a charity of one’s choice.
