CALAIS – William “Bill” G. Baker, 89, died Feb. 14, 2008, at his residence. He was born March 15, 1918, in Calais, the son of Harley J. and Lucy E. (McKnight) Baker. Survivors include his wife, Eleanor of Calais; a daughter, Doreen Gruber and her husband, Jack, of Bangor; a son, Michael and his wife, Diane Baker, of Charlotte; two grandsons, Jeffrey Frost of Bangor and Joel Frost and his wife, Cathy, of Nevada; a granddaughter, Carrie Hart and her husband, Brent, of Chelsea; a great-granddaughter, Rachael Smith and her husband, Donald, of Oklahoma; a great-great-granddaughter, Lianna Smith; a great-great-grandson, Oran Smith, both of Oklahoma; a brother, Austin Baker and his wife, Ann, of Calais; five sisters-in-law, Margaret Baker of Calais, Florence Hatton of Charlotte, Rae Sawyer of Pembroke, Thursa Sawyer and Ruth Sawyer of Charlotte. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais, with Ernest James officiating. Burial will be at Calais Cemetery.
