PENOBSCOT – William “Bill” Harrison Sr., 90, died peacefully Sun-day, Nov. 18, 2007, at his home, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his family and loved ones as he went home to be with the Lord. Born July 16, 1917, in Boston, he was the only child of George E. and Lousie (Fisher) Harrieson. In 1937-1938 he served in the CCC’s in Bar Harbor. In 1940, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served in World War II with service in the Philippines. Having been a truck driver for more than 35 years, he was a member of Teamsters Union, Local 340. He retired from Spector Freight Co., in 1980. Bill was actively involved with the VFW for many years, having served as post commander of Post No. 7997, Old Orchard Beach. In addition, he was past district commander of Districts 4 and 11. He was a 23-year member of Post No. 109, Ellsworth. Bill is survived by his devoted wife, Carole; and their two children, a daughter, Kathleen Cunningham and her husband, Ken, of Lyman, and son, William “Billy” Harrison Jr. of Reading, Pa. He is also survived by three beloved stepdaughters, Vickie Keith and husband, David, of South China, Stacie Pierce and husband, Jodi, of West Kennebunk and Kelli-Jo Tweedie of Brewer. In addition, he had five grandchildren. Funeral services with military honors will be held noon Tuesday, Nov. 27, at the Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta. A memorial service will be held at a later date at VFW Post No. 109, Ellsworth. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those who wish make a donation to either Hancock County Homecare Hospice, P.O. Box 156, Water Street, Blue Hill, ME 04614 or to CancerCare of Maine, 417 State St., Bangor, ME 04401. Funeral arrangements under the direction of Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport.
