BANGOR – William “Bill” Thomas Matthews, 64, died Jan. 17, 2005, at a Bangor hospital. He was born May 24, 1940, in Pittsfield, the son of Thomas P. and Natalie Matthews (Perry). Bill served with the U.S. Army in Vietnam. After his tour of duty, he worked for an American company in Vietnam and later worked briefly as a communications technician in the Marshall Islands. He returned to the states in 1975 to live and work in Maine. He is survived by two sons, Beerly Matthews and Nhan Matthews of Maine; daughter, Jeannie Matthews of Maine; daughter, Mai McDonald of California; sister, Jean Wilcox of Beals; brother, Dwayne Matthews of Massachusetts; two grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Bill will be remembered by very special friends, Kathy and Steve Fernald and their children, Stephanie and Nick Dustin of Bangor, and also a friend, Gloria Whitney of Bangor. He was predeceased by his wife, Anh; his parents; and two brothers, Richard and Michael Matthews. At his request there will be no memorial service.
