BELFAST – William “Bill” T. Kief, 66, of Belfast, passed away surrounded by his family on Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004. He was born Aug. 31, 1937, in Bar Harbor, the son of John and Mary (Poulin) Kief Sr. Bill was a proud member of the Howard Lodge Masons, and the Shriners of Belfast, the American Legion, and the Drum and Bugle club of Bangor. He also was a member of the State Board of Cosmetology. He loved his customers and his barbershop, which he ran in Belfast for 32 years. Bill enjoyed lobstering, gardening flowers and vegetables, and fishing, he even held the state record for the largest salmon caught in Moosehead in 1968. He also donated his time to the Shriners Burn Center. Bill loved to have his family around, and made sure everyone was having a good time. He is survived by his wife, Elaine of Belfast; his two daughters, Sherryanne Sprowl and her husband, Rich, of Hancock, and Lisa Wharff of Freeport; three step-sons, David Boyle of Searsport, Dennis Boyle of Belfast, and Stephen Boyle of Northport; one brother, John Kief Jr. and wife, Joanne, of Hancock; and one sister, Phyllis Leavitt of Carmel; his grandchildren, Jennifer Wharff and Katherine Joanne Wharff of Freeport; and step-grandchildren Ashlyn Boyle of Searsport, Justin Boyle and Brooklyn Boyle of Northport; friends, Julie and Alan Wood of Belfast; as well as other special friends too numerous to name. Friends may call from 1-2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004, at Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast, with funeral service to follow. Friends that wish may make donations to an animal shelter of choice or a children’s charity of choice in Bill’s memory. Burial will be held at Grove cemetery in the spring.
