AUBURN – William “Charlie” Charles Weir, 24, died June 22, 2006, as the result of an airplane accident in Newry. Charlie was born Nov. 5, 1981, in San Antonio, to Thomas Weir and Gail Sullivan Weir. He was a graduate of Alamo Heights High School in San Antonio, Class of 2000 and a graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Prescott, Ariz. Charlie was employed as a flight instructor for Twin Cities Aviation in Auburn. Charlie’s love of airplanes and flying began as a toddler. His paternal grandfather let Charlie “fly” his private airplane. His maternal grandfather was an Air Force pilot, killed in an air accident during active duty. Charlie completed his private pilot’s license at age 16. He was an Eagle Boy Scout, a certified flight instructor and a Christian. Charlie is survived by his father, Thomas Weir of New York City; his mother, Gail Sullivan Weir of San Antonio; his loving sister, Alexa Weir of New York City; his loving brother, Joseph V. Weir II of Denver; paternal grandparents, Joseph V. and Lupe Weir of McAllen, Texas; and maternal grandmother, Sally Jane Chenery Sullivan of Bangor. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 27, at Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State St., Portland. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 28, at State Street Church, 159 State St., Portland, with the Rev. Jeanette A. Good, Ph.D.D., officiating. Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, Portland. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the First Presbyterian Church in San Antonio. In lieu of flowers, donations in Charlie’s memory may be made to Boy Scouts of America, Pine Tree Council, 131 Johnson Rd., Portland, ME 04102 or to Central Park Conservancy, 14 East 60th St., New York, NY 10022.
