NORTHEAST HARBOR – William D. Stratton, 78, died July 2, 2008, at Mount Desert Island Hospital. He was born May 15, 1930, in Ellsworth, the son of Kendall F. and Madeline (Woodworth) Stratton Sr. Bill was a veteran of the Navy, stationed in New Jersey and also aboard the Coral Sea. He retired from New England Telephone as an systems supervisor, after 32 years of service. Bill was an avid hunter, fisherman and lobsterman. He coached Acadia Little League for seven years and the Pony League for several years. Bill belonged to the Lygonia Masonic Lodge, No. 40 AF & AM; was a former member of Odd Fellows; was a member of Telephone Pioneers of America, Ducks Unlimited and the National Rifle Association. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Georgette (Jellison) Stratton; two sons, Barry William Stratton and wife, Janet, and Brian “Ted” Stratton, all of Northeast Harbor; one brother, Kendall S. Stratton Jr. and wife, Marcia, of Hancock; one sister, Ruth Glencross and husband, Harold “Bud,” of Pittsfield; three grandchildren, Rory William Stratton and Kelsey Lee Stratton, both of Northeast Harbor and Cody Sterling Stratton of Portland, Ore.; one godson, William E. Glencross of Pittsfield; many special nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Joyce Stratton of Prospect Harbor. Bill was predeceased by his parents; and by a brother, Dana Stratton.
