STEUBEN – William Donald West, 87, died peacefully Wednes-day, July 27, 2005, with his family around him, at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth. He was born Dec. 8, 1917, to Emery West and Nancy Pinkham West in Steuben. William graduated from Steuben High School. He served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant during World War II in Fort Bliss, Texas and Camp Gruber, Okla., among many others. He also worked at Pratt & Whitney in Connecticut before entering the Army and worked as a mechanic and fisherman after his tenure. He owned and operated “The Rusty Anchor” Restaurant in Steuben for 25 years, retiring in 1996. He was an active member of the Anah Temple Shrine in Bangor and of Pleiades Lodge No. 173 in Milbridge, AF & AM. William was a friendly, outgoing person who loved to laugh. He had a large family whom he enjoyed very much, especially his grandson, William. He hosted family reunions at his camp on Georges Pond for many years. He was predeceased by his parents, Emery and Nancy West; his wife, Jennie West; his brother, Phillip West; his sister, Phyllis; and a special friend, Dorothy “Dot” Coombs. William is survived by his son, Donald West and his wife, Janet, of Steuben; his grandson, William; three sisters, Frances Tuttle of Hancock, Carmen Dorr of Milbridge, and Thelma Cope and her husband, Mitchell, of Portland; three half brothers, Richard West of Florida, Robert West and his wife, Carolyn, and Clifford West and his wife, Anne, all of Steuben; a half sister, Judy of Portland; two stepsisters, Betty Leonard Gammon and Evelyn Leonard Bourgeois, both of Gorham; a sister-in-law, Dorothy West; a brother-in-law, Douglas White and his wife, Betty, of Milbridge; and a sister-in-law, Beatrice Trepanier of Vermont; many nieces, nephews and cousins, including a very special niece, Crystal. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, July 31, at the Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 47 Main St., Milbridge, with the Rev. Joyce Ingrisano officiating. Interment, with military honors, will be at the Evergreen Cemetery, Milbridge. Gifts in memory of William may be sent for care and upkeep to Pleiades Lodge No. 173, P.O.
