STETSON – William E. Biggar, 74, died Oct. 17, 2006, at his residence. He was born April 2, 1932, in Portage, Prince Edward Island, Canada, a son of Richard and Fanny (Waite) Biggar. He moved to Maine in 1957, married his first wife, Rose M. MacDonald and had three children. He was employed at Eastland Woolen Mill, Corinna and Dexter Shoe Co., retiring in 1994. Bill was a member of the Country Music Association. He played the guitar and sang in country bands throughout the state and started the Frankenstein Show with “Slim” Clark: a predecessor of the Stacey’s Fuel Mart Jamboree. Bill also had a great respect and passion for wildlife and nature. He is survived by his second wife, Marquerite of Stetson; three children, Judy E. Biggar of New Mexico, John W. Biggar his wife, Judy, of Stetson Joanie J. (Biggar) Hersey and her husband of Powhatan, Va.; five grandchildren, Chad Marin of Wyoming, Nicole Biggar of Stetson, Jackie Ames of Richmond, Va., Jillian Ames of Fayetteville, N.C., and Jennifer Ames of Daphne, Ala.; one great-grandchild; Logan V. DeRaps; one brother, Erin Biggar and his wife, Phyllis, of Prince Edward Island, Canada; one sister, Joan (Biggar) Arsenault and husband, Aggno, of New Brunswick. He was predeceased by three brothers, Harry, Clarence and Clifford Biggar; and two sisters, Lila Aresenault and Helen MacDonald. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, at Crosby & Neal, 177 Main St., Newport, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. David Ray Sr. officiating. Burial will be at Clark’s Hill Cemetery, Stetson. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Nokomis Guitar Club, care of Don Mendell, P.O. Box 100, Newport, ME 03953.
