DEER ISLE – Gordon A. Sisson, 83, died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2006, at Island Nursing Home, Deer Isle. Gordon was born Sept. 4, 1923, in West Warwick, R.I., to Merrill and Dora (Winsor) Sisson. He spent the last two and a half years in this area, near his son, Steve Sisson and wife, Connie, of Ellsworth. A World War II veteran, Gordon served in the U.S. Army in the 112th Signal Intelligence Co., Bougainville and Luzon as a Japanese code intercept operator. He is a graduate of Bangor Theological Seminary and Farmington State Teachers College. He served brief pastorates at China Baptist, East Winthrop Baptist and Smithfield Baptist churches. While living for many years in the Westerly, R.I., area he spent time as an elementary teacher, shipyard worker and carpenter. Fishing was a passion at all points in his life. He was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth. He is survived by his son, Steve Sisson and wife, Connie, of Ellsworth; grandson, Chad Sisson and wife, Dr. Karen Bossie and children, Cloe and Edin of Winslow; granddaughter, Amy (Sisson) Eubanks and husband, Djuan and children, Shayla and Kiera of Portland; his son, Dean Sisson and wife, Linda, of Ashaway, R.I.; granddaughter, Lori Allen and husband, Dan and children, Ryan and Allissa; granddaughter, Carrie Melvin and husband, Dave, and children, Haley and John. He will also be remembered by Connie’s mother, Vera Dyer of Prospect and all the Dyer family, who have been family to Gordon. A private graveside memorial at Grove Cemetery, Belfast, is planned for the immediate family. Arrangements by Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport.
