ETNA – William F. Butland, 97, died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006, at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Bangor. He was the husband of the late Mary E. (Clark) Butland. He was born in Wareham, Mass., the son of the late Francis and Margaret (Reagan) Butland. Mr. Butland was raised in the Fields Corner section of Dorchester in Boston before returning to Wareham. He moved to Etna, in 2001. Mr. Butland was road supervisor for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Highway Department for many years. He retired in 1971. He was also a World War II, U.S. Navy veteran. He is survived by a son, John Butland and his wife, Mary of Etna; a daughter-in-law, Beverly Butland of West Wareham; a sister, Anna Harlow of Miami, Fla.; three grandchildren, Viola Dube and her husband, David, of Leominster, Mass., William Butland and his wife, Laurie, of Newport and Robert Butland of Winter Haven, Fla.; three nieces, Marjorie Kenyon and her husband, William, of Carver, Mass., Carol Kaplan and her husband, Jeff, of Miami, Fla., Barbara Potter of Florida; and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a dear friend, Dorothy MacIntosh; two sons, Edward Butland and William Butland; his sister, Louise Shaw; a granddaughter, Christina DiRienzo; a nephew, Russell Shaw; and a niece, Ruth Harlow. Visiting hours will be 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, at the Stott, Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway (Rt. 28), Wareham, Mass. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 6, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Center Cemetery, Wareham, Mass.
