BAR HARBOR – William H. DeLaittre Jr., 84, died June 25, 2007, in Bar Harbor. He was born Oct. 14, 1922, in Bar Harbor, the son of William and Eva (Marshall) DeLaittre Sr. William attended Bar Harbor schools. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War as a gunners mate. He married Mar-jorie E. Emerson in 1947 and they had three children. He retired from Jackson Laboratory as a night watchman, worked for many years as a caretaker at the Colony Motel, Hulls Cove and worked multiple jobs throughout the years. He always had a strong and hard work ethic, which he passed on to his children. He was an avid gardener all his life. William is survived by two sons, Richmond and Kevin and his fianc?e, Gail Duym, both of Bar Harbor; daughter, Pam Keene and her companion, Gary Hamilton, of Ellsworth; two grandchildren, Tamara Hus-mann of Carolina Beach, N.C., and William DeLaittre III of Bar Harbor; two great-grand-children, Gary William and Andrew Jaymes Husmann of North Carolina; sister, Bertha Legates of Milford, Del.; many cousins, nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by his special canine companion, Bear. He was predeceased by his wife, Marjorie; brother, Thomas; and sister, Lorraine. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, June 29, at Jordan-Fernald, 48 Eden St., Bar Harbor, with Pastor James Waugh officiating. Interment will be at Woodbine Cemetery, Ellsworth.
