ASHLAND – William J. Coty, 96, passed away peacefully in his sleep Thursday, May 3, 2007, at a Mars Hill health care facility. Bill was born Dec. 11, 1910, in Ashland, the son of Elizabeth Theriault and Elzra Coty. Bill dedicated his whole life to his business, Big Brook Logging, which he started in 1959, with horses. He loved fishing and having the Ladies Aid Society, from his church, to his camp at Portage Lake for his “small fish fry,” a deed for which he paid many fines over the years. Bill was a member of the Union Congregational Church, Ashland. Bill is survived by one son, Gordon Coty Sr. and his wife, Ruthene, of Ashland; grand- children, Glori and her husband, Barry, of Ashland; Gordon Coty Jr., Holly Coty and companion, Jeff Pelkey, all of Caribou and Susie Coty Beaulieu of Presque Isle; stepgranddaughter, Vicki Saucier and her family of Simsbury, Conn.; great-granddaughters, Paige Beaulieu of Presque Isle and Kearstin Coty of Caribou. Bill was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, June (Johnson) Coty, Nov. 17, 2003; and by his son, Ronald Coty, Feb. 2, 2007. The family wishes to thank all of Bill’s in-house caregivers over the past four years for the wonderful care and love they gave him. Family and friends are welcome to call 11 a.m. until time of service Tuesday, May 8, at Union Congregational Church, Sheridan Road, Ashland. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. at the church with the Rev. Nathan Gardner, pastor, officiating. After the service friends and family are invited to share memories and conversation downstairs at the church.
