BANGOR – William J. “Tug” Foley, 87, died July 30, 2005, at a local hospital. He was born in Bangor, March 13, 1918, the son of Frank E. and Frances (Nolan) Foley. Tug was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran. He retired from the Bangor Police Department as a sergeant serving 28 years following seven years with the Penobscot County Sheriff’s office and then became the sexton of Mt. Pleasant Catholic Cemetery for 16 years retiring in 1991. Tug was a communicant of St. John’s Catholic Church and was very active with the Bangor Police Relief Association. Tug enjoyed golf, playing cards and especially the Boston Red Sox. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Foley of Bangor; one daughter, Kathy and her husband, Joseph Betts and their sons, Nicholas and Joseph, all of Bangor; three sisters, Carolyn Keilty of Massachusetts, Dorothy Burkett of Nebraska and Tina Campbell of Brewer; a very close sister-in-law, Betty Foley of Bangor; five stepsons, Gary Viel, Richard, Patrick and Edward Michaud and Fred Eversole; one stepdaughter, Joyce Smith; many stepgrandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Arline Foley; three sisters, Roselle Foley, Isabelle Case and Ruth Delaney; two brothers, George and Frank Foley. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. John’s Catholic Church, with the Rev. Roland Nadeau, chaplain at St. Joseph’s Hospital, officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot, Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor. In lieu of flowers, friends may make donations to the All Saints School, St. Joseph Hospital, or the Bangor Police Athletic League.
