WINDHAM – William R. Bunnell Sr., 86, of Oak Lane, died Friday, April 4, 2008, at a Portland hospi-tal. He was born Nov. 20, 1921, in Fort Fairfield, a son of Shir-ley and Ruth Kearney Bunnell. William was educated in Fort Fairfield schools, graduating from Fort Fairfield High School in 1940. He entered the U.S. Marine Corp serving in World War II. William was a graduate of the University of Maine at Orono. He was an avid track and field athlete, setting numerous records. William excelled in every sport he attempted including basketball, skiing, swimming and boxing, which he continued through his college and military career. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. William spent many years at Cross Lake with family and friends. His ties to Cross Lake brought about a rich history for his entire family. William was an independent potato broker and produce buyer, until his retirement. His work brought him to numerous locations, which his family was an integral part of. He was married for 62 years to Natalie Parker, who predeceased him Feb. 17, 2008. William was also predeceased by his parents; and two brothers, Kenneth and Jack Bunnell. Survivors include his sons, Bill Bunnell Jr. and his wife, Vickie, of Standish and Brent Bunnell and his wife, Cindy, of Mary-ville, Tenn.; a daughter, Danna Fields and her husband, Alan, of Brunswick; a brother, Charles Bunnell of Belfast; a sister, Brenda Bunnell Brown of Yarmouth; granddaughter, Hanna Bunnell of Eddington; grandson, Bradford Bunnell and his wife, Shandy; and great-grand-son, Keegan of Fort Drum, N.Y.; granddaughter, Jessica of Maryville, Tenn.; granddaughter, Morgan of Brunswick; four stepgrandchildren, Beth and Jim Solman of Mary-ville, Tenn., and Lindsay and Abby Culberson of Standish; several nieces and nephews. There will be no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, April 11, at Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Road, Windham.
