ORIENT – William R. “Bill” Foley, 84, died Sept. 23, 2006, surrounded by his family at a local hospital. He was born May 3, 1922, at Goshen, New Brunswick, the son of Joseph and Annie (Voutour) Foley. Bill was an avid outdoorsman; enjoying gardening, fishing and hunting in the area. He enjoyed watching most sports. He was fondly known as “Pop” by his many “adopted grandchildren.” Bill was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving his country as a field hospital medic during World War II. After World War II, he worked as a farmhand until going to work for the Maine Department of Transportation. He retired in 1990 after 42 years with the Maine Department of Transportation. Bill enjoyed being surrounded by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were all very special to him. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary G. (Spooner) Foley of Orient; their children, Joseph W. Foley and his wife, Linda, of Cornish, Ronald P. “Butch” Foley and his wife, Virginia, of Cary, Janice M. Foley of Orient, Donna J. and her husband, Ronald McKnight, of El Paso, Texas, Mary E. “Marybeth” Foley and Steve of Orient, Dale J. Foley Sr. and his wife, Donna, of Orient, James W. Hall and his wife, Brenda, of Littleton and Gary A. Hall of Amity; sisters, Cecelia Kushneryk of Winnepeg, Manitoba, Canada, Mary B. Hall of Linneus, Eugenia Strout of Greene and Pearl Matarazzo of Southington, Conn.; 11 grandchildren, five great-grand-children, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a sister, Frances Ruby (Hall) Willette; and brothers, Omah Hall, Leander Hall and Thomas Foley. At Bill’s request there will be no visitation. A private service will be held at a later date. The family expresses a heart-felt thank you to Dr. Ted Sussman and all of the staff at Houlton Regional Hospital.
