NASHVILLE, Ind. – William S. “Bill” Lord, 68, died Dec. 23, 2007, at his home. He was born June 14, 1939, in Bangor, the son of Karl Elmer Salisbury and Blanche Young Turner. Bill spent most of his teen years at his beloved grandmother’s house in Amherst, where he loved spending time at his grandfather’s rustic hunting camp at Dutton Pond. He graduated from Brewer High School in 1957 and shortly thereafter moved to Columbus, Ind. He loved the state of Maine and returned there every year for hunting and fishing trips with friends and family. The woods were where he was most happy. He was an avid motorcycle rider, belonging to the Stoney Lonesome Motorcycle Club since 1989. Bill enjoyed riding enduros, hare scrambles, duel sport rides and road trips with his wife on his Gold Wing. He was a wonderful family man, teaching his children everything he could, helping them in every way he could. He was the most loving husband and friend, and was respected by everyone who knew him. Bill was employed at Cummins Engine Co. for 33 years, 13 of those at Jamestown Engine Plant, Jamestown, N.Y. He returned to Columbus, Ind., in 1989 and retired in 1992. Bill served in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1965. He was a member of Scottish Rite, the Masonic Lodge No. 100, Edingurgh, the American Legion, Ducks Unlimited, National Rifle Association, Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine, the Moose Lodge and the American Motorcycle Association. He is survived by his wife, Neola J. Williams Lord; his sons, Dirk Eugene and Shirl Lord of Newark, Del., William Darin and Kay Lord of Columbus, Ind.; daughters, Toni D. and Jim Taylor of Columbus, Ind., Valerie and Tim Lord Girse of Fenton, Mo.; grandchildren, Megan Marie Lord and Ryan Christopher Lord; and stepsiblings, Cindy Hopkins and Morris Turner. Bill was predeceased by his parents Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, and 9 a.m. Friday until time of services at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home, Columbus, Ind. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, at the funeral home. Burial will at Ogilville St. Paul’s Methodist Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Stoney Lonesome Motorcycle Club.
