GREENVILLE – Willie O. Strid Sr., 84, died May 23, 2006, at his home. He was born Feb. 4, 1922, in New Sweden, son of August and Nancy (Zettermen) Strid. He served in the U.S. Army in the 494th Field Artillery, for three years in Europe during World War II. After the war, he worked as a heavy equipment operator for Scott Paper for many years. He was a Communicant of Holy Family Catholic Church in Greenville and served as Eucharistic Minister for many years. He was a 4th degree knight in the Knights of Columbus, and a member of the American Legion Post No. 94 in Greenville. He is survived by a son and his wife, Willie and Cheryl Strid Jr. of Greenville; five daughters, Gloria and her husband, Richard Sears, of Monson, Jeanette Hyland of Greenville, Roselyn Trudeau and her partner, Donald Whitehouse, of Saco, Norma and her husband, Rene Bedard, of Old Orchard Beach, Nancy and her husband, Rick Melcher, of Saco; a sister and her husband, Freda and Mayford Dickinson of Caribou; 27 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Bernice (St. Peter) Strid; four sisters, Adeline, Lillian, Anna, Roselyn; a brother, Carl; and a son-in-law, Herbert Hyland Jr. Friends may call 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, May 25, at the Crosby & Neal Greenville Funeral Chapel, at the Masonic building, 281 Pritham Ave., Greenville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday at Holy Family Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. James Modlin. Burial will follow in the Greenville Cemetery.
