MALABAR, Fla. – Winfred Lewis Crosby, 86, passed away Friday, June 3, 2005, at the William Childs Hospice house in Palm Bay, Fla. He was born on Dec. 13,1918, in Great Pond. He attended school and grew up in Sullivan and lived for many years in Lee. He was a life member of the VFW and Past Master of Forest Masonic Lodge of Springfield. Mr. Crosby served in the Army Air Force during World War II where he received the Distinguished Flying Cross, Good Conduct medal, three Bronze Stars, and Air medal with three oak leaf clusters. Mr. Crosby retired in 1989 after working for many years as a truck driver for The State of Maine. He was known for keeping the Carroll Hills clear of snow in the winter. Mr. Crosby is survived by his wife of 58 years, Helen Loring Crosby; son, Michael and wife, Sarah, of Grant, Fla.; daughter, Patricia and husband, Albert Allen, of Melbourne, Fla. Also the special joy of his life his granddaughter, Carrie Lynn and husband, Wilson Ware, of Dallas, Texas. Mr. Crosby was preceded in death by his son, John (Timmy) Crosby; parents, Adelbert and Gertrude Crosby; brothers, Edmond and Sherwood; sisters, Min Travis and Marjorie Lowery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the: John Timothy Crosby Scholarship fund at Lee Academy, 4 Winn Rd., Lee, ME 04455. A graveside service will be held at a later date in Lee.
