KENDUSKEAG – Winfred “Sonny” Bortell, 66, formerly of Brewer, died Feb. 27, 2007, surrounded by his loving family at his home. He was born Dec. 9, 1940, in Lincoln, the son of Winfred C. and Catherine (Dolley) Bortell Sr. Sonny was a U.S. Army veteran and a longtime employee of John T. Cyr & Son of Old Town. Surviving are three children, Catherine E. Spaulding and her husband, Mark, of Kenduskeag, John Chronister and his wife, Kim, of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Mary Crockett of Greenbush; six grandchildren, Anthony, Justin, Cassandra, Jonathen, Amber, and Crystal June; one brother, Edward “Ducky” Drake of Hermon; two sisters, Carol Bortell and Barbara Stone, both of Ohio; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Carol (Plante) Bortell; and one sister, Madeline Howell. A private interment will be held in the spring at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer.
