ROBBINSTON – Winifred Cecelia Hinton “Winnie,” 93, died Oct. 18, 2003, at a Calais hospital following a long illness. She was born Aug. 16, 1910, in Brockway, New Brunswick, the youngest daughter of Daniel and Sara (Fraser) Dowling. She was a very active member and Deacon of the First Congregational Church of Calais, and member of the Boyd-Smith VFW Post No. 9779 auxiliary. She and her husband, Joe, enjoyed being members of the “International Squares” Dance Club. Winnie was employed many years at Ware Knitters of Calais. She also was employed by local families cooking meals and keeping up the homes. She enjoyed entertaining at their home for various groups, cookouts, dinner, singing, dancing and pot luck. She looked forward to having friends and neighbors dropping in for a visit. She will be dearly missed by her husband, Joe, and many dear friends. Surviving are her husband, Joseph Hinton of Robbinston; one sister, Florence Jumper of Lewiston; several nieces and nephews. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Scott-Wilson Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home 2 p.m. Tuesday, with Pastor Bob Hinton officiating.
