BUCKSPORT – Winifred M. “Winnie” Alley, 80, died Wednesday evening, June 28, 2006, at St. Andrews Hospital in Boothbay Harbor, after a brief illness. Winnie was born Dec. 13, 1925, in Brewer, the daughter of Jesse S. and Margaret (Wardwell) Murch. She attended Bucksport High School and lived her entire adult life in Bucksport. Winnie will be fondly remembered as a very giving, loving and devoted mother, grandmother and friend. She truly appreciated the gift of life and all things, large or small, that life offered her. She had a wonderful and spontaneous sense of humor, and celebrated this humor daily with family and friends. She was a wonderful cook, an active member of the Bucksport Senior Citizens Center, a devoted member of the Ellsworth Seventh Day Adventist Church and spent many years as a nurses aid at the Penobscot Nursing Home in Penobscot. God was foremost in her life and love of her family and extended family was equally precious to her. Winnie was predeceased by her first husband, and father of her two children, Sherman C. Brown; by her husband of so many years, Laurance Alley, who passed away in 1993; and her sisters, Thelma Boothbay of Hollowell, Eva Leach of Bucksport, Clyde Jerome of Bucksport and David Murch of Bucksport. Winnie is survived by her daughters, Linda and her husband, Frank Redman, of Boothbay and Jennifer Brown, also of Boothbay; six grandchildren, Heidi Curry and her husband, John, of Orrington, Denise Bernier and her husband, Paul, of Pittsfield, Heather Johnson and her husband, Jeff, of Bend, Ore., Kristen Waldron and her husband, Jim, of Centerville, Ohio, Eric Redman and his wife, Donna, of Pittsburg, Pa. and Holly Khera and her husband, Harbinder, of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and 12 great-grandchildren, Amy and Ryan Curry, Jasmine Garrow, Shauni Bernier, Spencer and Shauni Johnson, Tanner, Nicholas and Carrie Waldron, Sophia Khera and Braden and Payton Redman. Special love and prayers for two beautiful sisters that also have survived her, Patrica Woods of Bucksport and Ruth Sherman of Bangor; plus numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and those so near and dear to her at the Bucksport Senior Citizen Center, where she resided until her death. She will be fondly and sadly missed by all. Memorial services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, July 3, at the Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport, with Pastor Enoch Brownell officiating. A reception honoring Winnie will be held immediately after the memorial service at the Bucksport Senior Citizen Center, 125 Broadway, Bucksport. All friends and family are very cordially invited to attend. Interment will be held 4 p.m. at the Riverview Cemetary, River Road, Bucksport. Donations in Winnie’s memory may be made to “Wade Dow & Friends Musical Group,” a group that unselfishly donates entertainment to one and all at the Senior Citizen Center most Sundays during the winter months. Donations may be sent to Senior Citizen Center, in care of Nancy Davies, 125 Broadway, Bucksport, ME 04416. The following is a special quote Winnie wrote to share with her friends and family after her death: “I pray that those left behind will remember me as a happy woman because of my love for God, family, friends and life itself.”
