OLD TOWN – Zelma “Bessie” Nickerson, 79, of Old Town, in the presence of her family, passed away after a brief illness, at a Bangor hospital on Monday, March 15, 2004. She was born Sept. 3, 1924, in Milford, the daughter of Inez (Carlow) and William Smith. She was educated in Old Town and was self-employed. She was married to Hildreth E. “Bud” Nickerson on Feb. 23, 1944. She enjoyed many years at their camps on Brandy Pond and on the Myra Road in Greenfield. She loved snowmobiling, playing cards, and making puzzles. She also enjoyed feeding apples to her deer off her back deck and going out with her special friend, Anita Arsenault. Her most precious moments, in her life, were those spent with all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who meant so much to her, each individually and together as a whole. She is survived by daughters, Judy Nickerson of Old Town and Jan Pete and her husband, Art, of Milford; grandchildren, Tracy and Brian Hawes of Hudson, Troy Crawford and Lisa Honnell of Old Town, Heidi Jackson of Old Town and her significant other, Mark LeBlanc, of Greenbush, Bruce and Ellen Crawford of Myra, Scott and Ann Pete of Minnesota, Todd and Colleen Pete of Vermont, Guy Pete of Wells, Paul Pete and his special friend, Maria Biron, of Milford, Billy Nickerson of Orono, Wayne Nickerson of Pennsylvania, Michael Nickerson of New Hampshire and David Nickerson of Boston, Mass.; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Jason, Garrett, Johnathan, Michael and Caroline Pete, Jessica Jackson and her fianc_, Robert DuBois and JR Jackson, Nikkita, Tianna, and TJ Crawford, Alexis Hawes, Makayla and Allissa Pete, and Ariel and Hannah Nickerson; nieces, Carol Ann Flannigan and Norma Jean Gray of Old Town; nephew, Fred Nickerson of Stillwater; brothers-in-law, William Nickerson and his wife, Janet, of New York and Norman Brilliant of Old Town; sister-in-law, Wanda Nickerson of Stillwater; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her husband; their son, Eddie Nickerson; and her 10 brothers and sisters, Mildred Carney, Evelyn Murchison, Sue Brillant, Arlena Millett, Greta, Phillip, William, Everett, George and Harry Smith. The memories that have been made will never be forgotten and she is in our hearts forever. She is going to be greatly missed by all who knew her. Per her request, there will be no funeral services.
