BUCKSPORT – Wilfred B. Burpee Sr., 73, passed away at his home, March 17, 2004, surrounded by his loving family, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born Jan. 14, 1931, in Bucksport, the son of John A. and Marion S. (Blethen) Burpee. Wilfred attended schools in Bucksport, and was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War, earning the rank of Corporal. He worked for St. Regis Paper Co., Bucksport, retiring from Champion Paper Co. after 38 years of service. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with his family. He is survived by his wife, T. Delia (Gravelin) Burpee of Bucksport; three children, Marshall (Chuck) Ordway and his wife, Mary, of North Carolina, W. Boyd Burpee and his wife, Sue, of Eddington, and Denise Johnson and her husband, Mike, of Stockton Springs; five stepchildren, June Hall and her husband, Hubert, of Newport, Barbara Gould and her husband, Donald, of Exeter, Larry McLucas of Illinois, Carolyn Fish of Bangor, and Mitchell Cote of Bucksport; five sisters, Arlene Mulligan of Bucksport and Florida, Florence Baker of Blue Hill, Thurline McAllian and her husband, James, of Bucksport, Charlotte LeSage and her husband, James, of Bucksport and Florida, Sylvia Tweedie and her husband, Chet, of Orland and Florida; 13 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Dawn; three brothers, Luther, James, and Arthur; three sisters, Kathleen Linscott, Mary Parkes, and Lillian Colby; one great-grandson, Broden Wilfred Peterson. Visitation for family and friends will be 5:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, March 19, 2004, at the Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, with Pastor Peter Remick officiating. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, Bucksport. In lieu of flowers, donations in Wilfred’s memory may be made to New Hope Hospice, P.O. Box 757, Holden, ME 04429.
