MILLINOCKET – Martha M. Lozier, 85, passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully in her sleep Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008. She was born May 16, 1923, in Presque Isle, the daughter of Emile and Ernestine (Angotti) Lozier. She attended schools in Millinocket, graduating from Stearns High School, Class of 1941. Martha worked in defense industries in Connecticut during World War II. She then returned to Millinocket and worked in Ed Chapman’s Variety Store. She then attended Gorham Teachers College, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in education in 1953. She taught seventh and eighth grade English at Stearns High School from September 1953 to June 1963. Martha then attended the University of Maine, graduating with a Master of library science degree in 1968. She served as librarian for grades seven through nine from September 1963 to June 1975, when she retired from the school system. Martha served for a time as librarian at Millinocket Memorial Library. She is survived by two sisters, Louise Lorenc of Millinocket and Lorraine Batchelder and her husband, Robert, of East Hartford, Conn.; a brother, Carroll Lozier of Millinocket; several nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to visit with the family 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 29, at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 112 Maine Ave., Millinocket, with the Rev. Joel Cyr, pastor, presider.
