DORA AUGUSTA (AMES) SHARP – LITTLETON – Dora Augusta (Ames) Sharp, 97, died Sept. 28, 2008, in Littleton. She was born Aug. 20, 1911, in North Haven, the daughter of Vernon and Eva (Clement) Ames. Dora received her bachelor’s degree in history and social studies from Wheaton College, Norton, Mass., and her master’s degree in social studies from the University of New Hampshire, Durham, N.H. She also studied at Harvard and Boston University. She taught social studies at Appleton Academy, New Ipswich, N.H.; Milford High School, Milford, N.H.; Dartmouth High School, Dartmouth, N.H.; Toms River Schools, Toms River, N.J.; and Dover Township Public Schools, Dover, N.J. For 18 years she was the director of guidance at Morris Hills Regional High School of Rockaway, N.J., and finished her career as full time guidance counselor at Morris Knolls High School, Denville, N.J. She was awarded the Boston Gold Cane as Littleton’s oldest citizen just before her death. She married Ladd R. Sharp, Jan. 31, 1963, in Rockaway, N.J. Dora is survived by her husband of 45 years, Ladd of Littleton; her niece, Harriet Alexander of Iowa City, Iowa; one nephew, Stanley F. Ames of Golden, Colo.; and her beloved dog, Millie. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Frank Clement Ames; one sister, Margaret Eloise Ames; and one niece, Margaret Alexander. She will be interred in the Maine Veterans’ Cemetery, Augusta. Arrangements by Bowers Funeral Home, Houlton.
