RICHARD A. HOWLAND – BARING – Richard A. Howland, 67, passed away Sept. 19, 2008, surrounded by loved ones at Atlantic Rehab Center, Calais. He was born April 7, 1941, in Baring, the son of Horace and Martena (Doten) Howland. Richard attended schools in Baring and Baileyville. He was employed by the state highway department, Stone and Webster Construction Co., and until his retirement, he was employed by Georgia Pacific. He enjoyed the outdoors, spending time at his camp, hunting and fishing, as well as canoeing on Bearce Lake. He enjoyed the company of his feline companion, Bad Cat; and his close friends. Richard is survived by three children, Christopher of Baring, Angela of Calais and Catherine of Brewer; his brother, Gary Howland of Baring; granddaughter, Nicole Howland of Princeton; several nephews and nieces. He is also survived by his first wife, Edwina K. Howland of Upper Mills, New Brunswick. Richard was predeceased by his father, Horace Howland; his mother, Martena Howland of Baring; and his second wife, Marie Lyons of Lubec. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4 at Baring Cemetery, Baring.
