THOMAS A. MERCIER SR. – BREWER – Thomas A. Mercier Sr., 83, died Sept. 29, 2008, at the Maine Veterans’ Home, Bangor. He was born Jan. 23, 1925, the son of David and Mary (Biggar) Mercier. Tom graduated from Thornton Academy, Saco. He served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He moved to Bangor in 1958 and took a position with the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad, retiring in 1988. He was very active in his community serving as a city councilor. Tom’s sense of humor, honesty, humility and commitment to other people was his legacy. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Pauline (Adams) Mercier; one son, Thomas A. Mercier Jr. of Holden; one brother, Raymond Mercier of Saco; two sisters, Helen Snow and Virginia Scammon, both of Saco. He was predeceased by one brother, David; and a sister, Mary. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Greenlawn Memorial Funeral Home, 300 State St., Bangor. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Rex Garrett, chaplain at Eastern Maine Medical Center, officiating. Interment will be after in the family lot at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer.
