BELMONT – Daniel Dean Grass, 46, died unexpectedly Sept. 30, 2008, at his residence. He was born June 21, 1962, in Portsmouth, N.H., the son of Dean and Anita (Fitzgerald) Grass. Dean was the Belmont fire chief captain, an EMT and had recently received his Wilderness EMT Certification. He was a member of the Waldo County Search and Rescue and was firefighter No. 1. He enjoyed scuba diving, and earned his certification. He was a HAM radio operator, enjoyed NASCAR, worked hard and played hard, and will be remembered as a professional snowmobiler. He was predeceased by his father, Dean. He is survived by his mother, Anita Grass of Belmont; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Martin and Joyce Paige of Swanville; his wife of 20 years, Karen Grass of Belmont; seven brothers and sisters, Steven Grass of Morrill, Greg Grass of Belmont, Dena Grass of Morrill, Sandra and Dana Downs of Belmont, Jeff and Pam Grass of Searsport, Kevin and Dawn Grass of Belfast and Tony and Jennifer Grass of Belmont; a brother-in-law, Kevin Paige of Swanville; many special nieces and nephews, and a very special niece, Alyssa; and several aunts and uncles. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, at Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, at Belfast Armory with Pastor Dave Pouchot officiating. Interment will be afterward at Hillside Cemetery, Belmont. Friends are invited to a time of celebration and fellowship immediately after the interment at the Belmont Community Center. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to Belmont Rescue, care of Belmont Town Office.
