MILLINOCKET – Homer “Omer” J. Beaulieu, 89, beloved husband for 43 years to Helen (Matangelo) Beaulieu, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008, at Millinocket Regional Hospital. He was born March 15, 1919, in Orono, the son of Alex and Flavilla (Gonyar) Beaulieu. Omer attended St. Mary’s Catholic grade school and graduated from Orono High School, Class of 1937. He was a 3rd degree Knight of the Joseph Orono Council No. 152, K. of C., receiving an Honorary Life Membership Award in 1989. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the Donald Henry Post No. 80 of the American Legion, Millinocket. Upon his return from his service in the Army, he and a co-owner operated Kemmy’s grocery store, Orono, for several years. In 1961 Omer accepted a position as golf pro at Hillcrest Golf Club, Millinocket, retiring from there with a lifetime membership in 1981. During the winter months he worked at Great Northern Paper Co., various departments in the E & R Building. He coached the Stearns High School Golf Team during his employment at Hillcrest and with his love for golf, he always gave a helping golf lesson to the youth that came to the club. He was especially pleased to see one of his students win many women’s golf championships. Homer also taught all his nieces and nephews the game of golf and passed along his love of the game to them. Omer was a communicant of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, Millinocket. In addition to his wife, Helen, of Millinocket, Omer is survived by four sisters-in-law, Marion Beaulieu of Bangor, Anna “Mun” Beaulieu of Orono, Clara Paoletti of Millinocket and Helen (Cobb) Matangelo of Rhode Island; many nieces and nephews, whom he dearly loved; close cousins, especially George Gonyar; and many friends. He was predeceased by two sisters and six brothers. Friends are invited to visit with the family 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket, where a rosary service will be conducted 7 p.m. by the officers and members of the Daughters of Isabella, Little Flower Circle. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 112 Maine Ave., Millinocket, with the Rev. Joel Cyr, pastor, presider. Interment will be at Millinocket Cemetery.
