OLD TOWN – Dorine Gay DeSmidt, 76, died Oct. 3, 2008, in Denver, due to injuries sustained from an automobile accident. She was born June 1, 1932, the daughter of John Daley and Mona Elise (Chaples) Costigan. After her childhood in Costigan, fulfilling her dreams of traveling, she left Maine, arrived in Texas and married in Arkansas. Along her journey through 49 states, she had six children. Aside from her love of traveling, Dorine loved to dance, socialize, take rides, watch movies and TV. She also loved nature, gardening, flowers, cooking and baking. Dorine was the perfect homemaker and mother. She was easy to please, happy-go-lucky and an all around positive person who will be dearly missed by all. Dorine is survived by her son, Stephen Lex DeSmidt and Carol; her daughter, Linda Gay DeSmidt Johnson and husband, William and their children, Danny, and Timmy and his wife, Kim; and her daughter, Wendy Jo DeSmidt Kohlhoff and husband, Kris. Also survived by Dorine are her other daughters, Margo Whitney and her husband, Kevin and their children, Melissa, and Felicia, and Kathy Seibert and husband, Lenny and their children, Brian, Billy, Kristen, and Kevin. Dorine is also survived by her much loved companion, Jasper, the parrot. She is predeceased by her parents; her son, John Robin DeSmidt; and her significant other, Joseph Perrino. Visiting hours will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town, where a funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday.
