ALAN I. GEVERS HARRISBURG, Pa. – Alan I. Gevers, 87, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008. Born May 29, 1921, in Boston, he was the son of the late Joseph and Anna Gewirtz. A husband of 41 years to his wife Beverly, Alan was professor of biology at Harrisburg Area Community College for 22 years, retiring in 1986. As one of the first faculty members hired by HACC in 1964, Alan is credited with developing the biology department curriculum, leading to the creation of HACC’s widely respected nursing program. Alan was married Aug. 8, 1966, to Beverly Allen in Franklin, where they became summer residents at their home on George Pond. Upon Alan’s retirement, he created Bioptics, a small business he owned and operated, dedicated to microscope, optical and watch repair. Surviving Alan are sons, Benjamin, Noel and Laurence; daughters-in-law, Angel and Shannon; and grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Mitchel of Harrisburg, Pa. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at Auer Memorial Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 4100 Jonestown Road, Harrisburg, Pa. Interment will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, at Bayview Cemetery, Franklin, with a reception afterward at the Franklin VFW Hall, Route 182, Franklin. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the HACC Foundation, One HACC Drive, Harrisburg, PA 17110-2999 or Franklin Historical Society, care of Emery DeBeck, treasurer, 45 Cards Crossing Road, Franklin, ME 04634.
