FOXBORO, Mass. – Ella Tall, 62, beloved wife of Geoffrey Gallant, died Sept. 24, 2008, surrounded by her loving family, at home, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born March 21, 1946, in Caribou, she was the daughter of the late Axel and Verna (Hjelm) Tall. She was a graduate of Caribou High School and the University of Maine, Orono. She received her master’s degree in public health from the University of Minnesota and became a registered dietitian after a dietetic internship at Ramsey Hospital, St. Paul, Minn. Her career in clinical nutrition began in Rhode Island, where she worked as the state nutritionist and later became the first director of Women, Infants and Children – WIC, nutrition program for the state of Rhode Island. Ella also served as the president of Rhode Island Dietetics Association. The majority of her career was spent caring for patients as a clinical dietitian at Beth Israel Hospital, Boston. She was actively involved in the dietetic internship program at Beth Israel, where she trained and mentored many dietetic interns. Ella was a proud Swedish-American and enjoyed photography, cats and classical music. Her greatest joy came from her family and friends. Ella’s quiet ways, thoughtfulness and generosity will be missed by all. In addition to her husband, she is survived by four sisters, Sylvia Mattson of Stockholm, Carolyn Drugge of Chesterville, Marion Buss of Big Rapids, Mich., and Alice Noyes of Avon, Conn.; a stepdaughter, Danielle Guimaraes of Canaan, N.H.; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services and burial were held Sept. 27 in Attleboro Falls, Mass. Memorial contributions may be made to Sturdy Memorial Foundation, attention Outpatient Oncology Unit, P.O. Box 2963, Attleboro, MA 02703. Arrangements were under the direction of Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Ave., Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, Mass.
