COREA – Sally Ann Crowley, 69, died Oct. 7, 2008, surrounded by her family and her beloved animals at her home, after a long courageous battle with breast cancer. She was born Dec. 26, 1938, in Richland Center, Wis., to Jennings and Grace Trieloff. Sally grew up in Madison, Wis., and graduated from Madison West High in 1956. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, Wis., in 1960, as one of the first women graduates in mechanical engineering. The American Society of Mechanical Engineers named Sally one of two outstanding seniors. She also received a Master of Business Administration in general management from Boston University in 1979. After growing up in Madison, Wis., Sally lived and worked in Paris, Wellesley, Mass., Canoga Park, Calif., and finally Corea. She lived in Paris when she was married to Dr. Roland Humery and she started her career with Compagnie Honeywell-Bull. When she returned to the U.S., she was a project manager for Honeywell Information Systems, Newton, Mass., and then senior account manager for the airline and financial division for Honeywell, Los Angeles. She also owned and operated HMK Computer Systems of Woodland Hills, Calif. Sally moved to Maine in 1988 to live in Corea, a town she had visited many times and had grown to love. Sally served as town manager for Gouldsboro, 1988-1996; town manager for Machias, 1996-1997; and town manager for Winter Harbor, 1997-1999. She was elected Hancock County treasurer in 2002 and had served in that position until her death. Sally had been a person who was always active and involved in the communities wherever she lived. In high school she was a wonderful cheerleader, full of pep and athletic ability. She worked on the school newspaper and was involved in many clubs. At the University of Wisconsin she was business manager for Wisconsin Engineer and an officer for Society of Women Engineers. She loved to go antiquing, loved to read and loved to walk her dogs on the coastline in front of her house in Corea. Sally had a lifelong love and respect for all animals, but especially her dachshunds and her collection of cats. She was also an active member of Gouldsboro Methodist Church. Sally is survived by her children, Elizabeth A. Humery of Scottsdale, Ariz., Jerome C. Humery of West Hills, Calif., and Danielle L. Crowley of Raleigh, N.C.; and her stepdaughter, Patty M. Carter and her husband, Howard, of Ellsworth. She would say that her children were her best achievement and she loved them dearly. She is also survived by her sister, Susan J. Unruh of Raleigh, N.C.; her brother, Charles J. Trieloff and his wife, Shelly, of San Juan Capistrano, Calif.; and their families. She married Harvey L. Crowley in 1988, and they made their home in Corea until his passing in 2003. Sally was predeceased by her father, Jennings in 1961; and her mother, Grace in 1990. She will be missed by her dear friends from the Corea area and many relatives in Soldiers Grove, Wis., and Fort Atkinson, Wis. A memorial service celebrating Sally’s life will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Oct. 18, at Hammond Hall, 427 Main St., Winter Harbor, with Pastor Scott Nurse officiating.
