FORT FAIRFIELD and OCEAN PARK – Kathryn M. Solomon, 55, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice Home, Scarborough, after a courageous battle with cancer. Kathy was born April 22, 1953, in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of Joseph and Patricia (McLaughlin) Solomon. Kathy was a graduate of Fort Fairfield High School, Class of 1971. Kathy always considered herself a “county girl” and was proud of that fact. Some of her happiest times were spent working for her father in the potato business and also working the fields during the planting and harvesting seasons. She also enjoyed riding her Harley-Davidson, listening to Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen music, and working in her yard gardening and shoveling snow. The highlight of her life was spending time with her beloved nieces and nephews, Joseph, Amber and Peter Solomon, Maggie and Sammy Solomon, and Jonathan Gorman, and her great-nieces and great-nephews, Phoebe and George Solomon, Blake Parady and Kaiana Swan; as well as her special pet beagle, Sandy. Kathy is survived by her mother, Patricia of South Portland; her father, Joseph of Ocean Park; one sister, Karen English of Hollis; two brothers, Mark of Portland and George and his wife, Cindy, of Brunswick, Ga.; and an extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins. Kathy will be sadly missed by all of her family and special friends, including Laura Solomon, Lynn Catrett, Darlene Parkhurst, Susan Russell, Sally Armstrong, and many others whose lives she has touched. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield, where a vigil service will be conducted 7:30 p.m. by the Rev. Jean-Paul Labrie. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 17, at St. Denis Catholic Church, 147 Main St., Fort Fairfield, with the Rev. Jean-Paul Labrie, celebrant. Interment will be held after at St. Denis Catholic Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held immediately after the service at Knights of Columbus Hall, 260 Main St., Fort Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in memory of Kathy to Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, 11 Hunnewell Road, Scarborough, ME 04074. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
