BEALS – Charles Henry Beal II, 90, passed away Oct. 13, 2008, at Sunrise Care Facility, after a brief illness. He was born Aug. 14, 1918, in Beals, the son of the late Esten and Calista (Alley) Beal. Charles worked for and with his grandfather, Charles Henry I, for many years as pound keeper. Charles worked most of his life as a fisherman. He served as town selectman for many years. He was instrumental in getting the bridge that now connects Jonesport and Beals Island. Charles enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and coyote trapping. He camped on Fisherman’s and Slate Island with his close fishing buddy, Earlon Beal and his wife, Leta. Charles devoted his life to his family and will be fondly remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather. Charles was an avid historian and was an expert storyteller and enjoyed sharing his extensive knowledge with others. Charles was predeceased by his loving wife of 64 years, Leila (Lenfestey) Beal; a sister, Susie (Beal) Johnson and husband, Leon, and Fannie (Beal) Bishop and husband, Ellis; sister-in-law, Willavie Beal; brother-in-law, Farrell Lenfestey; brother-in-law, Wilfred Lenfestey; and special friends, Lenwood Wiggin and Lester Tibbetts. He spent many years lobstering and camping with his special friend, Oscar Wallace Jr. Charles is survived by his two sons, Luther Beal and his wife, Alice, of Newburyport, Mass., and Farrell Beal and wife, Gail, of Beals; granddaughter, April Carver and husband, Jim; great-grandchildren, Hannah and Kyle; brothers, Elmer Beal and wife, Marion, Esten Beal Jr. and wife, Patty; a sister, Myrtle (Beal) Lenfestey; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Peter Chatman, Kenton Feeney, and his sternman of many years, Lyman Seavey. Charles will be missed by special granddog, Jagger. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, at Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, Milbridge. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at Beal Family Cemetery, Beals, with the Rev. Jesse Merchant officiating.
