DOROTHY ‘DOT’ GETCHELL – BANGOR – Dorothy “Dot” H. Getchell, 93 years young, wife of the late Fred Getchell, died peacefully Oct. 13, 2008, at a Bangor health care facility. She was born Feb. 6, 1915, in Bangor, the daughter of Pearl and Nellie (Kirkland) Rose. Dot was a graduate of Bangor High School. She will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor and positive outlook on life. Dot enjoyed singing, cooking and crossword puzzles, but most of all she had a great love for her family. She was a member of Patawa Club, Athene Club, Bangor Garden Club and a volunteer at Eastern Maine Medical Center, having given more than 3,000 hours. Dot enjoyed her five years residency at the Ellen Leach Home, Brewer. Surviving are three children, Nancy G. Paul of Orono, Martha G. McSorley and her husband, Larry, of Bangor, and Frederick “Rick” Getchell of Winterport; nine grandchildren, David W. Paul, Jeffrey P. Paul, Stephanie J. Paul, Laurie-Ann McSorley, Michael L. McSorley and his wife, Joleen, Frederick L. “Lenny” Getchell Jr.; Matthew M. Getchell and his wife, Jennifer, Corinne S. Getchell, and Crista R. Getchell; five great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Chloe, Caleigh, Kayla and Darby Paul; several nieces and nephews. Dot was predeceased by a granddaughter, Pamela Paul; a son-in-law, Joe Paul; and eight siblings. The family thanks the staff at Bangor Nursing and Rehab. Center for their exceptional care and kindness shown to Dot. Relatives and friends are invited to call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, with the Rev.
