WATERVILLE – Hector A. “Mike” Lamontagne, 90, passed away Oct. 12, 2008, surrounded by his family at a local hospital. He was born Aug. 15, 1918, in Milan, Quebec, the son of Narcisse and Anna Lamontagne. Mike served in the U.S. Army during World War II, 1st Infantry Division, 18th Regiment, and was part of the second assault wave that landed on Omaha Beach during the invasion of Normandy. After the war, he returned to Maine and married Yvette Audette in 1945. They settled in East Outlet, Moosehead, where he was a dam operator for Kennebec Water Power Co., retiring after 35 years. Mike and Yvette spent many years of their retirement traveling from their home in Pittsfield to their home in Florida. Mike was very active in the American Legion and served as post commander in Greenville and county commander for Piscataquis County. In 2006, he was recognized by the Greenville Post as a 50-year member of the American Legion. Mike and his wife celebrated their 63rd anniversary, Oct. 9, 2008. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Michael and wife, Elsa; three daughters, Ann and husband, Ronald Harding, Janet Whitney, and Karen and husband, Neal Caron; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were held at Greenlawn Funeral Home, Bangor. Interment was at the Maine Veterans’ Cemetery. Those who desire may make contributions in Mike’s memory to the American Cancer Society of the American Heart Association.
