CATHERINE M. PETERSON

PLEASANT VALLEY, N.Y. – Catherine M. Peterson, 76, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. She was born Jan. 30, 1932, in the Bronx, N.Y., the daughter of the late Louis and Mary Gallagher Monsky. She was a graduate of Cathedral High School, New York City, and attended Fordham University. She moved to Patten in 1990 and enjoyed the outdoors, hiking and picnicking with her family. She had been a member of Patten Women’s Club. Catherine had also been a hospice volunteer for several years. She was employed as a bookkeeper for Virtis Co. Inc., Gardiner, N.Y., until her retirement. On Sept. 13, 1952, at St. Joseph’s Church, the Bronx, N.Y., Catherine married George T. Peterson, who predeceased her Dec. 22, 2007. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Diane Valentine and her husband, Charles, of Pleasant Valley; and two sons, Robert Peterson of Reidsville, N.C., and Daniel Peterson and his wife, Chayapat, of Fairbanks, Alaska; a brother, Adolph Ackerman of Long Island, N.Y.; and two sisters, Lillian Lauro of Long Island, N.Y., and Pauline DeSalvatore of Queens, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Karen, Rachel, Gillian and Kelly; and two great-grandsons, Jacob and Dylan. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Hospice, Inc., 374 Violet Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. Arrangements are under the direction of Robert H. Auchmoody Funeral Homes, Inc., 1028 Main St., Fishkill, N.Y.
