BANGOR – James “Jim” A. Higgins died Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008, in Bangor, from complications arising from recently diagnosed Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. He was born Jan. 11, 1963, in Haverhill, Mass., Jim attended the University of Maine. He played clarinet and saxophone, performing often with the Bangor Symphony, Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Hancock County, Queen City Big Band, Pastoral Winds, Opera Maine, Bangor Community Theater and Penobscot Theater Co. Since 1989 he worked for Fleet Bank, Bangor Symphony Orchestra, Northern Kingdom Music, PROTEA Behavioral Health Services respectively and most recently, Spring Hill Transcription. He was president of the board of the Penobscot Bay Gay Men’s Association, PBGMA – The Make Beautiful Tribe, for the last few years and worked at Arcady Music Festival Youth Competitions and Maine Summer Youth Music Camp at the University of Maine. His deep commitment to PBGMA and the musical community touched countless lives. He is survived by his mother, Patricia R. Higgins of Medford, Mass.; aunts, uncles and cousins throughout New England; his partner of 11 years, Dan Woodward; and innumerable friends, including longtime friend, Mark Nutt, all of whom will miss him greatly. A memorial service celebrating Jim’s life and music will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, at Hammond Street Congregational Church, 28 High St., Bangor, with a reception afterward.
