EAST MILLINOCKET – Frances “Fran” Evelyn Dentremont, 80, passed peacefully Oct. 18, 2008, at a Portland hospital, due to complications caused by Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. She was surrounded by her friends and family at the time of her passing. Frances was born Aug. 21, 1928, to Robert and Nellie (Marston) Goodwin. She grew up in Millinocket, attended the local public schools and graduated from Stearns High School in 1946. She married Howard A. “Pee-Wee” Dentremont, Feb. 28, 1948, who was employed by Great Northern Paper Co., East Millinocket, after he served with the U.S. Navy in World War II. Frances and Howard bought a house in East Millinocket, had three children and lived there together until his untimely passing in 1968. Frances was later married to Robert “Bob” McLean of Millinocket in 1971, until their divorce in 1992. Early in her career, Frances worked in the offices of Great Northern Paper Co., Millinocket, and later worked as a secretary for the principal of Schenck High School, East Millinocket. Her longest term of employment was with Katahdin Friends Inc., where she worked for a number of years, until her retirement. During retirement Frances volunteered at Opal Myrick Elementary School. She enjoyed activities such as arts and crafts projects, walking, aerobics and was a down hill skier until she converted to cross-country skiing in her later years. She was a voracious reader and always had a book by her side. She was also quite fond of sitting on her front porch and could be found relaxing there at times “watching the world go by.” She found great strength in her devotion to Christ and was an active member of First Baptist Church of East Millinocket. Through the years she served as a pianist, Sunday school teacher, Bible school helper and most recently, as a member of King’s Daughters Mission Circle. Frances is survived by her children; daughter, Susan Blood and her husband, Leon Blood, of East Lebanon; daughter, Julie Adams and her husband, Joseph Adams, of New Smyrna, Fla.; and son, Howard Dentremont and his wife, Christine Dentremont, of Swans Island; her grandchildren, Erika Blood of Falls Church, Va., Alec Blood of Baltimore and Sage Dentremont of Swans Island; her sister, Mary Boynton of Raymond; several nieces and nephews.
