THE VILLAGES, Fla. – Joan W. Ferris, 74, passed away Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008, at The Villages Hospice House, The Villages, Fla. Joan unselfishly dedicated her life to her family, as well as countless others, as a nursery school teacher for 18 years in Maine and Vermont, and she served as an inspiration to countless children, parents and friends. She will be fondly missed by her many card playing and golfing friends. Joan is survived by her husband of 51 years, David Ferris of The Villages, Fla.; sons, David Ferris Jr. of College Park, Md., and Joseph Ferris of Manchester, Conn.; daughter, Lisa Ferris Patrick of Atlanta; sisters, Virginia Wolf of Bangor, Margaret Wellington of Orrington and Louise Cantone of Vernon, Conn.; brothers, Donald Wellington of Bangor and Jack Wellington of Casco; and five grandchildren. Services were held Monday, Oct. 20, in Florida. A graveside service is planned for late spring 2009 at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor. Donations may be made in her memory to The Villagers for Hospice, 601 Casa Bella, The Villages, FL 32162. Beyers Funeral Home, Lady Lake, Fla., is in charge of arrangements.
